Les livres électroniques dont je parle depuis longtemps sur ce blog étaient à l’honneur au dernier “Consumer Electronic Show” de Las Vegas. Après Sony et Amazon (Kindle), Samsung(photo ci-dessous) et bien d’autres arrivent sur ce marché de l’eBook/eReader.
La société Plastic Logic a aussi présenté un eReader à usage professionnel/bureautique intitulé le QUE, il permet de lire non seulement des livres mais aussi des journaux (sans perdre la mise en page !) ainsi que de consulter son agenda en réseau, de lire ses emails et pièces jointes (Excel, pdf, powerpoint, word).
Nous voyons donc émerger 2 catégories de produits :
1) L’eBook (en fait un eReader) à usage professionnel/bureautique
2) L’eBook à usage grand public/loisirs aujourd’hui uniquement dédié et optimisé pour la lecture de livres, voir de journaux & magazines (dans le cas du Kindle d’Amazon).
Il est vrai que la lecture d’un livre avec un eBook fonctionne plutôt bien, en revanche la consultation de journaux ou magasines (ex : le Monde, Fortune…) reste très difficile. En effet, pour être compatible avec le lecteur eBook d’Amazon, les journaux sont re-formatés dans un format très similaire aux livres, par conséquent une simple navigation et lecture des titres devient impossible.
Il faut aussi prendre en compte les évolutions technologiques, l’émergence d’écran LCD/OLED qui peuvent passer d’un mode noir & blanc (type E ink) à un mode couleur va certainement pousser les industriels à développer des produits eBook pour livres mais aussi mieux adaptés à la lecture de journaux & magasines.
Après le livre numérique, les journaux et magasines numériques arrivent (The digital magazine). En voici une illustration sous forme de concept :
Maintenant il est impossible de ne pas parler de l’iTablet qui va probablement être annoncée le 27 janvier par Apple. Toutes les rumeurs convergent vers un produit familiale (multi-utilisateurs), un produit orienté vers un usage “loisir” pour regarder des programmes TV mais aussi pour consulter des journaux et magasines (à priori Apple est en discussion avec des éditeurs de contenu comme le NewYork Times etc…).
Apple va t’il répliquer son modèle de distribution numérique de la musique aux livres/magasines/journaux ? Du fait de son écran couleur de 10 pouces, probablement de son système de navigation tactile, Apple va certainement positionner son iTablet sur la lecture de journaux et de magazines ainsi que sur l’accès facile au contenu multimédia (TV).
L’arrivée de l’iTablet d’Apple va secouer le marché de l’eBook/eReader. Un moyen pour Amazon de ne pas perdre son avantage (si il n’est pas trop tard !) est (1) de sortir une Tablet (Kindle 3?), de répliquer son modèle d’achat de livres aux journaux et magasines ou (2) de recentrer son positionnement sur la lecture de livres et même de l’élargir au marché de l’éducation avec les livres scolaires (ex : Kindle DX). Laissant par conséquent Apple sur le “digital magasine” et le “loisir multimédia”….. Amazon vient juste d’annoncer cette semaine son “kit de développement”, donc à terme, nous devrions voir des applications ainsi qu’une “App store” pour le Kindle au même titre que pour l’iPhone aujourd’hui….
